Lodges, Outfitters and Guides

We have the opportunity to spend time at many different lodges while filming the show, so here we would like to share the details of our stay. Please take time to check out what these great locations have to offer.

Northwest Fishing Team

During the week of May 09-15, I had the good fortune of fishing with a lodge in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. I was fishing with Steve, the owner of Northwest Fishing Team in Haida Gwaii, BC. The Northwest Fishing Team (NWFT) lodge is an incredible West Coast fishing lodge and an amazing experience.

Travelling to the NWFT lodge was easy. From Calgary to Vancouver. After a short two-hour layover, we boarded another Air Canada flight to Haida Gwaii. Upon arrival in Haida Gwaii, an NWFT staff member was waiting to pick us up and take us to the lodge. After settling in, the next day we were on the water targeting Chinook salmon. The salmon were holding in 60 to 80 feet of water near rock edges protruding into deeper water. Herring were spawning, and an abundance of needle fish were in these areas, so cut bait and hoochy baits with a 4/0 Gamakatsu hook behind a Hot Spot flasher were the bait of choice. We caught salmon ranging from 10lbs to 24lbs and came home with our limit. Ling cod were also abundant, holding tight to deep-water pinnacles at 160 to 200 feet of water. Large BuzzBombs were more than the cod could handle.

For me, the experience of setting crab, prawn, and shrimp traps each morning as we headed to the fishing grounds and pulling them at the end of the day was equally as exciting as fighting Chinook salmon. The crab, prawns, or shrimp, and sometimes two out of three, were the feature during supper, as we sat on the deck overlooking the ocean and surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

The fishing at the NWFT will speak for itself. However, when you accompany great fishing with amazing accommodations, people, boats and equipment, food, and fresh seafood, you have the making of a trip of a lifetime.

Stockman’s Lodge

Nestled into the beautiful boreal forest of northern Saskatchewan, literally on a private island, Stockman’s Lodge takes a maximum of 10 guests at a time. Family-friendly and personable, Stockman’s Lodge is an angler’s paradise regardless of your skill level. Northern pike and lake trout of all sizes, including large northern pike and lake trout, are caught right outside your cabin door on Cuelenaere Lake. If that wasn’t enough, Stockman’s Lodge also features various walk-in walleye, northern pike, and lake trout lakes where boats and motors await to fish waterbodies only fished by Stockman’s Lodge guests. After a day on the water, losing count of the number of fish you did battle with, you can rest your arms in your log cabin with all the comforts of home or share fishing stories with other guests before you eat like a king/queen at the main lodge. That’s if you’re not still full from shore lunch.

You will arrive at Stockman’s Lodge as a guest but leave as a friend. And the fishing stories you tell from Stockman’s Lodge really did happen!

T&D Amisk Camp

T&D Amisk Camp, in northern Saskatchewan, is a drive-to fishing camp with all the comforts of home. The camp is located at the south end of Amisk Lake, and the lake is legendary for its walleye and northern pike fishing. It is not uncommon to have 100+ walleye days and doubleheaders are very common.

Northern pike were exactly where they were supposed to be, tucked in the weeds with cabbage weeds in nine feet of water producing both quality and quantity northern pike. Casting and retrieving a #2 Len Thompson Lure into the weeds and along the edges of the weed beds would pull the northern pike out of hiding. Some weed beds produced better than others, however, every weed bed in eight to 12 feet of water and cabbage weeds produced northern pike.

If you are looking for a drive-to-lake where you can catch both quality and quantity and maybe your new personal best walleye or northern pike, T&D Amisk Camp, in northern Saskatchewan, should be your next drive-to fishing location!

Bakers Narrows Lodge

Bakers Narrows Lodge, in Northern Manitoba, is a family-friendly drive-to lodge with all the comforts of home and can accommodate any angler’s needs with self-guided and/or fully guided fishing adventures. However, I highly recommend, on your first day, you hire a guide. Not only will your guide show you the many great fishing locations, but he/she will also show direct and safe routes to and from your fishing locations.

Bakers Narrows Lodge is well known for its quality lake trout fishing however, it also has quality northern pike and walleye fishing. I spent four days fishing Bakers Narrows with my main focus on the lake trout. Lake trout were consistently caught throughout the water column and at every location our guide took us to.

If you plan on booking a trip to Bakers Narrows Lodge, I highly recommend hiring one of the lodge’s guides. The guides are extremely knowledgeable about the lake and the movement of the lake trout, and they will turn your fishing trip into a fun fishing adventure. And they make an amazing shore lunch!
